Invisalign has exploded in popularity since it was introduced in the late nineties in no small part because it can straighten out a smile without the visible metal parts and dietary restrictions that come with traditional braces. While many patients find that Invisalign is an easier way to realign their smiles, you’ll still have to make some special considerations to wear your clear aligners properly when on a date. Here are a few tips to help you stay on top of your treatment plan while enjoying a night out with a special someone.

Keep Your Clear Aligners in Presentable Condition

While Invisalign clear aligners are designed to be virtually invisible, they must be properly cared for to stay in great shape. Accumulation of plaque and food debris on your clear aligners can cause foul odors as well as discoloration of the clear plastic and your enamel, so it is crucial that they be kept clean. Whenever you remove your aligners, thoroughly rinse them to help eliminate food debris and brush and floss your teeth before putting them back in. This will help keep your teeth in great shape for when you smile at your significant other.

Mind Your Schedule

Invisalign clear aligners must be worn for at least twenty hours every day for treatment to stay on schedule, and they must be removed during eating because they cannot withstand the pressures of chewing. While the general rule is that you should only remove them for meals and hygiene, it’s important to remain mindful of how long you are wearing them when you’re out on a date. It’s best to wait at least thirty minutes after eating before brushing, so be mindful of the evening’s schedule so you can clean your teeth and replace your aligners after dinner but before the movie.

Be Confident and Have Fun

People find those who smile frequently to be friendlier, more confident, and more attractive. Invisalign is a great way to realign your smile without worrying about casual observers noticing your appliances, so there’s no reason to think that you can’t look your best when wearing your clear aligners. Smile generously, don’t be afraid to laugh, and just be yourself the next time you wear Invisalign during a date.
